École d'été de français

french immersion program

The École d’été de français (ÉÉF) is a five-week intensive French immersion program offered by the Centre de langues of the Université de Sherbrooke (Québec, Canada).

Our students have 30 hours of formal instruction and about 10 hours of sociocultural and recreational activities per week (not counting weekend activities!).

Our program works as a package that includes the classes, the books, the lodging, the meals and a variety of extracurricular activities.

If you are interested in regular university courses, please visit the Centre de langues’ website.

If you work for a school, university or business and are looking for an immersion program to send your students/employees to, please contact us, as we may be able to customize our program to your needs.

Next edition

The 2019 edition will take place from June 16th to July 20th.
We ask students to be in Sherbrooke before 4 pm on June 16th to settle in. The departure is on July 20th.

Courses & Activities

The École d’été de français offers courses in all levels (worth 9 credits each*). These courses consist of morning theory classes and afternoon workshops.

In addition to our regular courses, students from upper levels follow an extra course (worth 3 supplementary credits*), which allows them to put their skills to use in different French-speaking environments (community projects).

All classes are mandatory and take place during the day from Monday to Friday.

*Non-bursary students can also choose to enroll in our non-credited program.

More about our Courses

A variety of sociocultural and recreational activities are included in the École d’été de français program’s package. A different activity is organized every day, usually on the evenings after classes or on weekends.

We also offer many recreational outings for an extra cost (these usually take place on weekends).

Code of conduct and linguistic policy

The École d’été de français strives to provide a welcoming and safe environment for all people, regardless of origin, color, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, mental or physical abilities, age, education or income.

Because we also want to ensure a French speaking environnment, we require all of our students to communicate in French. This policy is particularly enforced during activities organized by the program or involving a large group of our students.

Lodging & Meals

The lodging

Our students stay on individual* rooms at the Université de Sherbrooke campus’ residences, in a building that is exclusive to the École d’été de français.

The bathrooms and kitchen are shared, and the kitchens are fully equipped.

* Since our rooms are individual, it is difficult for our program to accommodate couples or families. That said, if you have any special needs (i.e. you are coming with a child), please contact us and we will try our best to help you.

The meals

From Monday to Friday, lunch is served directly at the cafeteria. Students can choose between one of the two meals of the day (including a vegetarian option), sandwiches, salads, stir-fries and more.

Students will also receive the equivalent of a $60 / week allowance to cook the rest of their meals in the residences’ shared kitchens (breakfast and dinner during the week and all meals during the weekends). This allowance (totaling $300) will be handed through three $100 grocery store gift cards that will be given as the program advances.

A visit to the nearest grocery store is planned the first week of the program.
